ITB Asia reports positive signs for continued growth in the Asian travel sector


Increased numbers of trade visitors, business leads, advance exhibitor bookings and a growth in the conference programme – these were among the outstanding features of the recently concluded ITB Asia, ‘The Trade Show for the Asian Travel Market’.

The sixth edition of ITB Asia attracted over 9,100 visitors from over 110 countries across three days, a 7 per cent increase over last year. The show also saw the participation of over 800 exhibiting companies from over 70 countries.

“Our year-on-year success amplifies ITB Asia’s position as a world-class event, attracting high level of business and interest from across the travel industry. But we’re not stopping there. Each year, we’re determined to stay ahead to provide our delegates with the latest industry insights. Our constant strive for improvement is what sets us apart,” said Nino Gruettke, Executive Director of ITB Asia.

“We are already seeing advance interest in exhibitor space booking for future ITB Asia editions. Many exhibitors have taken advantage of our two-year contract scheme to snap up booth space in 2014 and 2015. This early interest in ITB Asia is very promising and it also indicates positive industry outlook moving forward,” added Gruettke.

A post-ITB Asia survey revealed that 97 per cent of trade visitors said they would recommend ITB Asia to their colleagues and business partners.

”ITB Asia provides delegates the latest information on the travel industry as well as the chance to meet with counterparts from all over the world. We never imagined we could promote Okinawa to Middle East, but this was made possible at this year’s event. ITB Asia is a perfect platform for businesses to expand their networks and develop new markets” said Mr. Hiroki Matori, Director, Overseas Project Department, Okinawa Convention & Visitors Bureau.

ITB Asia 2013 delivered over 3,850 minutes of high powered content over 20 sessions led by industry partners including United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), Global Business Travel Association (GBTA), Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA), the Medical Tourism Association, the National Association of Travel Agents (NATAS), American Express and micenetASIA.

This year’s conference programme received very positive feedback and 83 per cent of delegates indicated that they are ‘very satisfied’ with the sessions.

ITB Asia has signed an MOU with the Singapore Tourism Board (STB) to produce an even stronger conference programme over the next three years.

Focused on consistently attracted top quality buyers, ITB Asia has the reputation of generating genuine business leads. This year, over 97.2 per cent of hosted buyers said they would recommend the programme to business partners, while over 93.8 per cent showed intent to participate again next year.

Organized by Messe Berlin, the next edition of ITB Asia will take place from 29 to 31 October 2014 at the Sands Expo and Convention Center, Marina Bay Sands.

ITB Asia 2014 will take place at the Sands Expo and Convention Center, Marina Bay Sands, from 29-31 October 2014. It is organised by Messe Berlin (Singapore) Pte Ltd and supported by the Singapore Exhibition & Convention Bureau. The event will feature hundreds of exhibiting companies from the Asia-Pacific region, Europe, the Americas, Africa and the Middle East, covering not only the leisure market, but also corporate and MICE travel. Exhibitors from every sector of the industry, including destinations, airlines and airports, hotels and resorts, theme parks and attractions, inbound tour operators, inbound DMCs, cruise lines, spas, venues, other meeting facilities and travel technology companies are all expected to attend.
